Check your maintenance
date is at least the release date shown for the version you want to
install. If not, contact us
to upgrade your maintenance.
Note the location of your
database so you can enter it during installation.
Stop the Gaia Print Monitor,
Gaia Net Monitor and/or
Gaia Copier Monitor services and close all Gaia programs. If you don't
close all programs, the installation procedure will abort.
If you have customized
the web inquiry and/or web administration html files, backup the files to
another folder.
Uninstall V2.x. This will not affect your
database but make a backup if you are concerned.
Run the file you downloaded to start the installation
procedure.
Check the database
location is the same as noted in step 2. This is VERY important - don't
skip it
Restore any html files saved
in step 4.
For V2.6 and above:
Windows 2003: Restart
the print spooler service after installing Gaia Print Charger 2.6 or
above.
Windows XP: Restart the
print spooler service after adding a new printer to be monitored.
Re-install and start the
Gaia services by:
For V2.0 to V2.6 select "Tools/Install
or Remove Services".
For V2.7 and later
select "Tools/Services"
All services must run under the domain
Administrator or similarly privileged account in the domain for which you
are licensed.
V2.7 and later
Install and start
the Client Service on the database server if you plan to use the
Windows or Web Client or Web Administration.
If you run the print client and you have a firewall on the clients and/or server, you will have to open the appropriate ports. See File/Options/Client/Options for port numbers.
Versions 2.0 to V2.5 include
an upgrade utility to upgrade your database from the V1 format to the V2
format. To upgrade to V2.6 or later, first upgrade to any V2.0 to V2.5 then upgrade to the later version.

installation procedure will offer to restart the server.
Run the program you
downloaded and
install Version 2 in a different folder to the previous
products. (The default is now "Program Files\Gaia Print Charger")
Run Gaia Print Charger Administration and and it will
automatically prompt you to import the previous data. To do this manually,
select "File/Import/From Version 1".
Use the import utility to import and combine your
previous data. If you imported from both previous products, you
must import Print Charger before Net Charger. The
previous data will not be changed so you can re-run the import or revert
to the previous version.
If you imported from both Print and Net databases,
you must manually merge the Net group properties into the
Print groups. Users will have been imported as members of their print
group, so add the net group properties to the print group properties. Move
any remaining net group members then delete the previous net group.
Re-install and start the services by selecting "Tools/Install
or Remove Services".
All services must run under the domain
Administrator or similarly privileged account in the domain for which you
are licensed.
Check the logs to ensure the services started
correctly and verify that charging is occurring.
