Version 2.7 Release Notes

This major update contains the following new features and fixes:

1. Print Client

   1. The communication method with the windows client has been totally re-written to remove any dependence on NetBios name resolution. This has fixed all known problems with the client failing to activate especially on wireless networks where the users roam between access points. If you have a firewall on the clients and/or server, you will have to open the appropriate ports. See File/Options/Client/Options for port numbers.

   2. All client communication now goes through the Client Service so it must be installed and running on a server.

   3. A new Hold option has been added to allow the user to delay charging a print job until later.

   4. A new print jobs tab allows users to see all their current jobs and print or cancel them.

   5. The Transfer option has been enhanced so you can optionally allow users to transfer their allocated funds as well as their receipt funds.

   6. A new option to change the user to charge at print time.

2. Administration

   1. New options have been added to:

      1. Quickly refund a user or department's print job.

      2. Add a miscellaneous charge to a user or department.

      3. Charge for uploaded internet volume.

   2. A new services table shows the status of the Gaia services and allows you to easily control them.

   3. A new Connected Clients table shows all workstations running the Gaia Client and allows you to quickly test and/or message them.

   4. A new print jobs in progress table to show the status of all jobs.

   5. A new user print jobs report.

   6. Improved printer wizard to add all printers at once.

   7. Extra command line options to export user transactions to a CSV file.

3. Release Station

   1. The Authentication service has been removed and its function added to the Print Client service.

4. Common

   1. The SBSS registry key we have used since version 1 has been changed because the Microsoft AntiSpyware tool reported it as belonging to a spyware company and deleted it causing the service to fail to start. The registry key is now HKLM\SOFTWARE\Gaia Computing

5. Upgrade from Version 1

   1. To reduce the size of the download, the program to upgrade from Version 1 to Version 2 has been removed. To upgrade from Version 1, install a previous Version 2 release, perform the upgrade then install this release.

Version 2.7.1 Update released 1-Nov-2005

1. Added display of MSDE firewall log to Administration.

2. Fixed charging of traffic in MSDE firewall logs.

3. Fixed use of the specified authentication server for release station.

4. Fixed display of job pages in the release station for downlevel jobs.

5. Fixed shutdown of the Client on Windows 95/98/Me.

6. Enhanced database security for Vouchers - makes this release incompatible with previous releases. Once you upgrade, you will not be able to run previous versions without restoring a previous database.

Version 2.7.2 Update released 30-Nov-2005

1. Fixed the Transfer option in the Web Client.

2. Another fix to charging of firewall traffic using MSDE logs with ISA 2004.

3. Fixed updating of denied net users after voucher allocation when using a single balance.

4. Fixed the receiving of low net balance notification messages.

5. Fixed Scheduled Net Adjustments when the net service is running on a different server to the print service and the database.

6. Fixed updating of the Applied Date for Scheduled Adjustments.

Version 2.7.3 Update released 16-Jan-2006

1. Fixed the "Printer/Coper Usage per Department" report.

2. Fixed issue when switching between windows on multiple CPU computers.

Version 2.7.4 Update released 17-Feb-2006

1. Fixed print charging when multiple copies and duplex were set for a job with an odd number of pages where a discounted duplex rate was set. Previously, 2 copies of a 3 page duplex job were being charged as a single 6 page duplex job.

2. Improved the efficiency of net charging database updates to reduce the chance of getting "Unable to log transaction" errors when manually adding receipts or adjusting balances.

Version 2.7.5 Update released 3-Mar-2006

1. Fixed the sending of customized low print balance messages.

2. Fixed charging of EMF spool files when the spooler had not yet been restarted after Gaia installation.

3. Fixed Department Print/Copy & Net Transactions Summary reports where sometimes the spacing between lines was incorrect.
